The Bratsva Sveta (a.k.a. The Brotherhood of the Light) was established four hundred years ago in Yakutsk, Siberia-not far from where the immortals maintained a permanent residence. According to legend, the Brotherhood’s founder, Ivan Deminov, escaped with what was left of his kin when a group of immortals ransacked his village. All the wives and children had been lost to the horde of monsters that had slain at will. Together, the survivors formed a society-its sole mission: complete annihilation of the immortals.
Years of vengeful bloodshed went by. Many lives were lost, mostly on the Brotherhood’s side. Historians claim that the immortals also suffered great defeats, however this has been disputed by modern scholars-the Brotherhood was no match against the immortals, not until many years later.
In the generations that followed that first bloody era, the Brotherhood’s mission gradually metamorphosed from one of violence to one of research and study-initially to learn from the immortals’ strengths and to find their weaknesses, but later on to uncover the secrets behind the magic that lingers in their tissues.
For the last hundred years, the Brotherhood has only intervened with the immortals on rare occasions-as most members no longer believe that the immortals should be extinct.
Today, the Brotherhood is an international organization with members from around the world. Its headquarters lies in the heart of Moscow, behind the Kremlin. The Council consists of twenty-three male councilors, including the Grand Master. They wear red-and-black robes that bear their insignia-a silver cross wreathed in a circle of flames. Field agents gather information for the council. They are clad in black.
